Simple Diwali Craft & Activities for Kids

Diwali is this weekend, and we were in full Diwali prep mode. That is until tropical storm ETA decided to leave us with a very wet mess. All of our plans to decorate, do DIY activities, and make sweets have come to a halt. We had to evacuate our home due to the excessive flooding in our Fort Lauderdale neighborhood. I am not sure when we will be able to get back into our home. In the meanwhile, I still wanted to put this blog post together for you. Sharing a few DIY Diwali activities that you can try at home with the kids.

An easy DIY Diwali craft I came up with last year that the kids and I made was a DIY Diya garland. Which we will be reusing this year. While I like making Diwali crafts using what we have at home. I have found some great craft kits available online and I love supporting small businesses. I encourage you to do the same this holiday season. Especially during the pandemic when so many small businesses have suffered. Down below you will find some of my favorite Diwali books, recipes, and activities that will make Diwali celebrations even more special.

DIY Paper Diya Garland

If you are like me then you are going to love the easy DIY Diwali paper garland. I am big on using items we already have around the house for crafts. So that is exactly what I did. Construction paper, scissors, pencil, glitter, and string. Click down below to see how easy this simple craft is.

DIY Diwali Craft Kits, Books, Activities

One of the activities that Rian and Neve enjoy doing kids while we have been at home during the pandemic has been coloring.  I downloaded an 18-page coloring activity book from Diwali Crafts that has kept them busy.  They also have fun craft kits like above for children of all ages.

Rangoli Mandala circular floor puzzle – kulture_khazana

While scrolling through Instagram I found the wonderful Rangoli puzzle from Kulture Khazana.  I thought this would be a great alternative to the traditional rangoli that can get messy when you have little ones.  You won’t feel as bad when they want to messy the rangoli design after hours of work.

Diwali Greetings (Free Printable)

Rian loves to make handmade cards for everyone and they are extra special to receive, right?  I knew his younger sister Neve would want to make Diwali greetings with her big brother.  So I found these free Diwali Card Printables.  Click to download to create your own Diwali greetings for your loved ones.  I will share the kids working on their own Diwali greetings over on Ig.

Diwali Books

Books are one of my all-time favorite ways of introducing cultural concepts to my kids.  As a kid, this was one of the items that I wished we had when I was growing.  I would get lost in books and really enjoy that my kids now have books that they can relate to culturally.  Down below are some of my faves!
