The kids were back in the classroom and nerves were still running high about continuing to quarantine and wearing a mask. So that we were ready for a mini getaway. Something we did pre-kids was drive down to the Keys for the day and enjoy the sunset. So we planned a staycation at the 24 North Hotel located in Key West, Florida.
My husband and I both love the drive down to the Keys. Although the seven mile bridge always scares me the kids were fascinated driving across seven miles of blue ocean. Whenever I have to do that drive alone I turn up the music and try not to let the scary thoughts creep up. So this time around I was grateful he was driving. We arrived pretty late Friday night so after checking in and some exploring we got ready for bed.
Early the next morning we headed down stairs for breakfast and a day at the pool. The onsite food truck The Blind Pig wasn’t open yet. So we grabbed some coffees from Starbucks also located onsite and enjoyed breakfast outside with the kids. They couldn’t wait to get changed and into the pool so we did not waste anytime after breakfast. To the pool we went!
While at the pool we worked up an appetite so we ordered some snacks from Toasted Coconut the poolside restaurant and bar. I highly recommend you try the fish dip and Pina colada. I accidently spilled my first drink because of all the local roosters who also thought it was tasty.
Later that afternoon we took a drive through town and walked around Duval street. It’s always fun to explore and discover what local shops open. Since it was both kids first time in the Keys they were ecstatic to see how life was just a few hours away from home.
If you are visiting the Keys you have to try Key Lime pie but if you love chocolate the frozen Key Lime Pies dipped in chocolate are to die for. Strolling down Duval street you will find all sorts of interesting people who are sharing their craft. From musicians creating beats from simple buckets, local cigar rollers, and even artist capturing the magic of a Key West sunset.
