As a mother of color I have always tried to incorporate diversity into my kids play. Starting with books, toys and games about our own indian culture. This has been so important to me even before becoming a mother because of how I had felt as child not having dolls that looked like me. I believed that I had done my best at introducing toys and games that are representive of color and culture. However, I have not done my best at being inclusive of introducing other cultures and races into their play.
The change begins now. I consider myself much more aware of my role as their mom and how I am doing my part at furthering change in the Black Lives Matter Movement. Real change towards a better future has to begin in the home. I have been taking time to educate myself about the cause and steps I can take to ensure that I am raising race concscious children.
I have complied a list below of resources from a varitey of online sources that have been shared. As I continue to come across more diversity resources I will continue to update this list. Please feel free to share with me in the comments any toys, books, games or other resources that you have found helpful in diversifying your children playtime. I would be happy to include them in this list.
