Volunteer with your kids Cleaning up Local Beaches

Volunteer with your kids while cleaning up one of your favorite family beach spots, attend a beach cleanup with volunteer cleanup near you.  It is a fun and easy way to get involved  with your community.  This year we teamed up with my son’s Montessori school and head to Fort Lauderdale beach on Saturday morning to pick up trash on the beach.

They supply buckets and tools to pick up the garbage, you did need to bring gloves for yourself and kids.  You fill up the buckets while a team sorts and recycles the trash that is picked up.  Before having kids I really enjoyed volunteering whenever I could and now as a parent I like finding ways to share this same experience with my kids.  When I heard about this beach cleanup I thought this is a great way to get my toddler and preschooler outdoors on the weekend while teaching them importance of volunteering our time to keep our beaches clean.

Since we had recently spent the afternoon on fort Lauderdale beach the previous week enjoying the sand and waves.  I was happy to see how esactic my son was to spend his Saturday morning with his friends cleaning up that same beach.  He understood the importance of getting up earlier, being on time and making sure that his enviroment is kept safe and clean.  I can say it was a successful morning of learning and giving back to our community.

The kids even spotted a jellyfish while picking up the plastic garbage from the edge of the water. They learned that it is also very important to keep our trash out of the water so that the sea creatures like our friend the jellyfish can continue to grace us with their natural beauty.
