Everyday Staples :: Stripe Feminine Top + Petite Skinny Jean

Today I am talking about two of my everyday mom staples, a feminine stripe top, and skinny denim jeans.

Feminine Stripe Top

A stripe top is a versatile wardrobe staple piece; therefore I have several strip styles in my wardrobe.  One of my old office worktops this one is more structured, yet lightweight for those hot summer days and perfect for layering.  What I adore about this stripe top is the feminine detail of the ruffle sleeves. The material gives the ruffles structure, which makes a difference between a more stylish top vs a basic tee. For a day at the office, pair with a fitted pencil skirt, pumps, blazer, and your favorite tote.  This feminine stripe top will take you from office to happy hour drinks.  Just ditch the blazer, change your pumps to a cute strappy heel and add a clutch. (I would keep one in my own large tote when I was at the office)

Here I was meeting another mom for crepes and coffee at Aroppo nearby. I wanted to look put together since I had some errands to run after our crepe & coffee date. I also had my daughter with me, therefore I need a stylish & practical outfit that would allow me to move with an active toddler. (Hence the flats). As I mentioned before this stripe top is a bit more structured.  Which is why I tucked it in to create more of a waist so it didn’t look boxy if I left it out.  The belt helps break up the strip top from the skinny jeans that also to create a waistline when there isn’t one visually.

The structure of the ruffles not only add the feminine detail but also are a lifesaver.  Now as a mom I like that the ruffles help conceal my underarm.  An area that became enlarged during my first pregnancy, with what I was told by my doctors was normal and filled breast milk.  Five years later, two babies, unable to breastfeed, and lots of negative thoughts this underarm area still plays a role in mom body insecurities.  However, I have been able to find a stylish workaround, ruffle sleeves.  This has worked until I can figure out the right exercise that will help reduce the excess body fat in this specific underarm area.  My point though ladies is that regardless of the “problem” area don’t be afraid to wear what makes you happy.  I don’t hide this “problem” area al the time.  I still wear armless tops because it is too hot in South Florida and I did not want to give into my insecurity.  Don’t get me wrong it lingers in the back of my mind when I am posing for photos, or when I feel like someone is staring.  But I have to I remind myself that I am more than my armpits and most likely no one has noticed that it’s just in my head.

Plus, now that I am the mother of a boy and a girl, I want to encourage body positivity in both of them.   I want them to see a mom who works toward eliminating those body insecurities.  A mom who embraces the strength and beauty of what her body has accomplished, when it brought life into this world.  Because all that matters is that I am happy and healthy so that I can be their best mom.

Petite Skinny Jeans

For me, a great fitting pair of petite skinny jeans is my second everyday wardrobe staple.  I have yet to find a high-end, popular petite brand of jeans that I like.  Therefore I am always on the hunt for a pair that I LOVE!  And as my weight fluctuated after and between pregnancies I went through tons of jeans.  Skinny jeans are so versatile and have been one of my favorite cuts, that’s why I have so many in various washes and styles.  Dress them up with a silk camisole and strappy heels or down with a graphic tee and flats.  I really like them today with this feminine stripe top, waist belt, and pointy toe flats. The outfits ideas are endless, ladies!

Currently, I am really liking these medium blue wash Cello jeans.  They have a high rise waist and is made from quality fabric with added stretch, that also won’t sag over time.  Although the length could be shorter, I am able to create a cuff so that it hits me at the ankle when wearing flats.  not only are these jeans made for you with you in mind they are also very affordable, under $20.  I found these and a few other pairs at Ross Dress for Less.  They make petite friendly options that come in a variety of washes and sizes, here I am wearing a size 3 about a 26″ waist.

This outfit was perfect for a crepes & coffee meetup with another mom, where I was able to talk about some of my passions (psychology, blogging, Indonesian food, etc).  Although I did have to keep an eye on my two-year-old daughter I had a lovely time connecting with another mom.

Ladies, what are some of the wardrobe staples that you cannot live without?  I would love to know.  Leave me a comment below.
