A Galentine’s Day Picnic for Moms & Kids
I am pretty sure many moms can agree that since becoming a mom finding and keeping mom friends has been a difficult task, we are all busy caring for little ones and families all day long but still need some time to interact with other adults socially. Although though we might know how beneficial maintaining our friendships are as a mom we tend to place them on the back burner.
It has taken me four years to find and cultivate new mom friendships with other women who are literally in the same boat me. These mom friendships are something I am learning to cherish because they are very different from your other relationships like those childhood female friendships or female family relationship we still keep up. These mom’s understand your day-to-day routines, they understand the loneliness you feel on some days, they relate to weeks of not being able to connect with your partner, they get how exhausted you are and you know what they aren’t afraid to share it. We are not trying to keep up a false pretense of being the “perfect” mom we are real mom with real-life experiences and feelings.
So this year I wanted to share some Galenine’s Day love with my new mom friends and their kids. I quickly put together a Mommy and Me Galentine’s Day picnic at a local park and invited my new gal’s out for the day!
The day before had rained all day and it was cold so I was afraid the weather wouldn’t be so great but the day turned out beautifully. We even had a Dad crash our Galentine’s day picnic, hey even dad’s need some Galentine love as well.
Most of the items I already had at home there were only a few things I purchased to create personalized gifts for the mom’s. I borrowed the huge picnic basket from my mother in law and filled it with mini bagels, fruit snacks, drinks and a few other goodies.
Using a Target dollar section letter board that I had from the previous year I created a cute little sign and the LOVE sign was a dollar tree buy that I painted red and gold.
Since we are all moms and we brought our kids along I made sure to have some entertainment for them too. One mom brought her bubble machine which the kids all loved, I brought play dough and a few on the go coloring kits. Us moms even had a fun Galentine’s game to play, a conversation starter that I thought would be a great idea for us to get to know each other better, another Target $1 section find.
Since the day was about celebrating the mom’s I made these adorable treat gift boxes using the clear valentine boxes from the dollar tree I filled them with Trader Joe’s assorted macaroons. Not only is it a budget friendly gift idea it is pretty and tasty, I even made one for myself that enjoyed later at home.
To the moms that made it and to the moms who were dedicating their time in another way to their kids, my intention was to get us together and enjoy each other time. I remember earlier years not having anywhere to go and no plans wishing I could be apart of the festivities (serious FOMO) this year I decided to make it happen for us mom’s.
My first Mom and Me Galentine’s Day Picnic was a success! What are some ways you celebrate the MOM friendships in your life because we all know that we couldn’t do it without that support from another mom friend.
