Meal Time made easier for Parents & Healthy for Kids by Nurture life Meal Subscription

As a modern stay at home mom, I will be the first to admit that making three meals a day is not an easy task.   Although most weeks I do try to make at least two fresh meals each day, the important thing is that I TRY!  However even I need help coming up, purchasing, prepping and then making that nutritious meal that entire family will eat. With one picky eater and a toddler who is expressing her own likes and dislikes there are evenings I end making two meals one for mom and dad then another for the kids.  As a mom with already, lots on my plate making two separate meals each night is just not the best use of my time and energy.  I needed to find a better solution that would get both my picky eaters eating and save me some time in the kitchen.

Once you have set up an account it is time to pick your meals.  Based on your child’s age and dietary preferences you are able to choose a meal plan that best meets your families needs.  Then the fun part of planning, choosing and managing your meal preferences begins.  Each week you are able to select the meals that you would like to receive weekly.  Choose meals from all across the globe like veggie tikka masala, harissa chicken and teriyaki salmon w/brown rice & veggies and those are the toddler meals! Add on to your box items like school safe snacks, additional meals, fruit purees or fruit gummies to enjoy all week long.

Prep & Deliver

Once you have made your meal selection your meals are then prepared, packed and delivered.  All meals arrive in an insulated box that is lined with frozen gel packs, which are all recyclable.  Meals will arrive cold, but not frozen and are labeled with a best used by date ensuring the freshness of every meal.  Each meal also as comes prepacked in a microwavable safe tray, for easy reheating.  It is recommended that baby purees and finger foods be transferred and heated separately out of the packaging.  Unpack and refrigerate meals upon receiving.

Warm & Serve

Refrigerate immediately until ready to eat.  When it comes time to serving up these delicious meals.  It is very simple, once the seal is removed just warm and serve, keep in mind it is recommended to consume meals within 24 hours of opening.  It is also recommended that you heat until internal temp is 165 °F or greater. Since the meals do come pre-packaged in a microwavable safe container, Peirce or break seal and heat for 1-2 minutes.  The tray is also oven safe, you can preheat your oven to 350 °F. Remove the seal, cover with foil and place on a sheet pan to heat for 10-15 minutes. Test temperature before serving.  However, I do recommend removing the contents of the meal from the packaging when reheating.  Keep in mind meals are lightly seasoned to all for the natural flavors can shine through.  If you feel that your meals need a little extra flavor then feel free to intensify those flavors to your child’s liking!

The Food

Nurture life believes that introducing children to a variety of cuisines, textures, and ingredients builds better eaters and opens them up to a world of flavors and experiences.  Their meals contain a nutritious balance of ingredients and flavor profiles that meet every child’s eating preferences, even the pickiest of eaters.  If you are worried about the nutritious benefits or allergens all meals are egg-free, soy-free, gluten-free and if they are not they are clearly marked.  They even have several picky eater approved meals that help take the guesswork out deciding for when your picky eater switches things upon you.  Below are a few of the meals we choose when selecting our meals for the week.

Mac & Cheese w/Cauliflower (Picky Eater Approved)

Lunch Time with Mac & Cheese
Mac & Cheese w/hidden cauliflower

Made with whole wheat pasta, this classic dish features a secret ingredient blended into our cheddar cheese sauce, pureed cauliflower.  The hidden veggies are unnoticeable and portion sizes come based on your child’s age.  Toddler meals have a smaller portion-sizes compared to a kids meal (2-8 yr).

Pork Ragout (Picky Eater Approved)

Ragout for me, ragout for you! In this hearty dish, antibiotic-free pulled pork and whole wheat pasta are mixed into our veggie-packed ragout. We finish it with a sprinkle of fresh mozzarella for a bit of cheesy delight!

Frittata with cinnamon French Toast (Picky Eater Approved)

We’ve made breakfast for dinner! Finely chopped veggies, eggs, and cheddar cheese are baked into delicious mini frittata cups. For that complete breakfast feel, we serve it with a finger-friendly french toast bread pudding made from a mix of whole wheat bread and light custard sprinkled with cinnamon.

Pork Al Pastor

Mexican street food delivered straight to your door! Marinated pork is slowly cooked with peppers and onions and pulled into succulent strips. Paired with Southwest-spiced veggies and black beans and rice, your little one is sure to feel the fiesta spirit!

Thai Coconut Chicken

Take your kiddo on an adventure with this flavorful Thai-inspired dish! Featuring roasted chicken, squash, kale and red bell peppers simmered in garlic-ginger coconut milk, this dish introduces new flavors while keeping it kid-friendly. We serve it over brown rice to soak up all the delicious saucy goodness.

What we Think

Overall, Nurture Life was a great choice for our family.  With one picky eater and a sassy toddler voicing their opinions at dinner time, each night can be challenging to say the least.  I am so thankful for the Nurture Life meal subscription, which has helped make mealtime with two kids a lot less stressful in our home.  The ready to eat meals can be reheated in a matter of minutes eliminating prep time, making our lives so much simpler!

It is also comforting to know that the meals that they are consuming contain only organic, locally sourced, all-natural ingredients.  All the food is REAL food that is hormone-free, gluten-free, and has no artificial colors or flavors.  Making Nurture Life meals nutritionally balance for you and your family every day.   Considering so many children suffer from childhood obesity I really liked that all the meals have the ingredients and portions sizes listed on the website as well as on their packaging.  It helps me understand better more about the nutritional value and portion size of the meals my children are consuming.

“Childhood obesity is a serious problem in the United States putting children and adolescents at risk for poor health. Obesity prevalence among children and adolescents is still too high.

For children and adolescents aged 2-19 years1:

  • The prevalence of obesity was 18.5% and affected about 13.7 million children and adolescents.
  • Obesity prevalence was 13.9% among 2- to 5-year-olds, 18.4% among 6- to 11-year-olds, and 20.6% among 12- to 19-year-olds. Childhood obesity is also more common among certain populations.
  • Hispanics (25.8%) and non-Hispanic blacks (22.0%) had higher obesity prevalence than non-Hispanic whites (14.1%).
  • Non-Hispanic Asians (11.0%) had lower obesity prevalence than non-Hispanic blacks and Hispanics.”

Considering that more children suffer from childhood obesity that also leads to serious medical conditions.  It is very important to me that the portions sizes be noted based on the child’s growing size and age.  I am now much more aware of how I can help reduce childhood obesity starting at with the meals I consume and feed to my family with the help of Nurture Life.

With all picky eaters and sassy toddlers, there will always be challenges when introducing a new meal. So I’ll be a hundred percent honest they did fuss and complain but one thing I have learned as a mom.  Is NEVER GIVE UP!  I kept reintroducing the meals to them and you know what they ate them ALL!  Even Nurturelife says it takes 6-15 tries before a child becomes familiar and begins to enjoy the new foods.  So like I said do not GIVE UP keep offering it to them and eventually they will warm up to it.
