Designer pizza’s are the new “in” thing. You see all types of new age pizzerias popping up all of the Miami, Cali, and even in little Italy New York. What happened to the original cheese pizza with homemade tomato sauce, fresh cheese and sausage? It is not entirely a thing of the past. There are some new comers like California Pizza Kitchen that I’ve decided to give a chance. Located in heart of Coral Gables California Pizza Kitchen exhibits the best of both worlds. Family’s can walk and get seating for large groups and couples can also have space for themselves.
Going out on a limb I decided to try their pear and Gorgonzola thin crust pizza pairing it with a white north coast wine. The caramelized pears, Gorgonzola, Fontina and Mozzarella cheese with sweet onions, hazelnuts melted in your mouth. The pears were not too sweet the hazelnuts gave the pizza the right amount of sweetness. Severed with a field of greens tossed in Gorgonzola ranch dressing. All together with the wine, pizza, and salad this designer pizza hit the spot. So maybe these new pizza’s will have a place in this new world.
