Donut Grow Up :: A Mommy & Me day date decorating mini Donuts

With a two-year old daughter and five-year old son balancing life with them has been a learning process.  One thing we have struggled with as parents is figuring out how to spend quality time with each child separately.  It has been one of my goals in this season of motherhood to share personal quality time with each of my children.  I want to make sure that we get one on one time with one another that we both need.

This year I was able to make that, one on one time, happen we dream of.  I took my son out for a mommy and me day date.  Thank you, to Mini Donut World for hosting this Valentine’s mini donut decorating class back in February.  We spent our morning decorating mini donuts with Strawberry the clown.  Although my son had been under the weather the day before.  He was still able to get his face painted and enjoyed spending this quality 1:1 time with me.

Most of the time we don’t we get to chat because it seems like I am always doing something for our family.  Today was our time together, we were able to talk, I took a few pictures then put my phone away.  During this one on one time I was able to really connect with him and we feel much closer.  Kids may not remember the frills but they will remember the moments that we take out of our day to spend with them.  I really am grateful that I am able to carve time out of my day as a stay at home mom to still spend quality time with him.  He even asked that we go back for another mini donut decorating class soon.

Mini Donut World

Mini Donut World is a an adorable mini donut shop in Cooper City.  Selling these mini gourmet donuts right here in sunny south Florida.  Mini Donut World offers a variety of gourmet mini donuts for you to choose from or you create your own.  What I like about mini donuts is that they offer a unique dessert option when planning your events.  They have these mommy and me mini donut decorating classes and will even help you host your own mini donut decorating kids parties.

I was so happy when I stumbled on to their mini donut decorating class.  I wanted to do something special for Valentine’s day with my son. Since I had planned a Galentine’s day date with my daughter a few days earlier on Valentines Day, see my post here.

A mini Donut decorating class would be perfect because we both love, DONUTS!  I saw that it was only $20 per child that includes one hour of mommy & me decorating class plus donuts.  What you get when you arrive is one box for your child containing the decorating ingredients.  In the box are three mini donuts along the toppings that are already chosen for you.  You get two containers of vanilla and chocolate icing with two containers of sprinkles and colorful Cheerios.

Once Strawberry the Clown arrived and was all setup we began our mommy and me mini donut decorating class.  Which was really me assisting my son in decorating his mini donuts.  I was expecting more of an actual decorating class with some instruction from one of the employee’s or owner of Mini Donut World.  Instead Strawberry the Clown provided singing and face painting for the kids while we decorated our mommy & me mini donuts.

Our mommy & me mini donut decorating class was a success in that we were able to spend one on one time with one another.  Did we learn much about mini donuts or how to properly decorate them, maybe in another class.  We did however, enjoy eating our mini donut creations on our drive home.

The kids had a fun time decorating and eating mini donuts, getting their faces painted, and singing songs together. That day I was able to meet and connect with some other local moms.  Before leaving I choose just three of the many mini donuts available to take home with us along with a iced coffee.

Any mom would agree that they wish time would stop at some point because they don’t want their little one to grow up.  But it is inevitable and on this  journey of motherhood finding that time together can be difficult.  Wether we are working moms or are stay at home moms one on one time essential to both our kids and us.  In this one hour mommy and me class I was able to create that one on one time  at a wonderful local establishment.  What are some ways you try to create one on one time with your kids?
