Is baby Rhino a Boy or Girl?
Today we had the pleasure of celebrating with Zoo Miami for a very special baby Rhino gender reveal. Not your typical gender reveal right? Well recently a Greater One Horned Indian baby Rhino was born right here at our very own Zoo Miami, to Mom Akuti and Dad Suru. This was a very significant birth because not only was the baby rhino conceived through artificial insemination but also with induced ovulation. Something that has never been done with this species. We were so honored to be invited to see the baby Rhino make his or her first debut onto the Indian Rhino Habitat here at Zoo Miami.
There fun gender reveal poppers, pink & blue fortune cookies, a baby registry and we even signed the welcome banner for baby. When we found out about the event were running some errands. My son Rian was so excited as soon as we go home he made a card to welcome Zoo Miami’s newest addition. He even picked out a miniature baby rhino present to give to the new baby rhino that would keep him or her company at night.
We have less than 3,000 of these One Horned Indian rhinos left in the wild throughout Asia. This rare birth of an Indian rhino has been so important to the Zoo as well as the community globally. Especially when countless efforts are made to maintainto their population safe globally, and for those that are under human care. Why, because these beautiful 6,000-pound mammals are being hunted and poached for their horns. Which are then used medically in some cases or to make handles for daggers. It is so important to help protect the Indian Rhino speices so that our children can have the opportunity to see them in their natual habitats or even here at the Zoo to learn more about the speices. If you would like help save these animals, to donate please click here or you can adopt an animal here and become a wildlife gaurdian.
Being able to witness this precious little rhino life with my son by my side was such a memorable experience. It was fun to see his excitment to find out if the baby was a boy or a girl. He guessed that the baby would be a girl. And you know what he was spot on! Baby Rhino is a GIRL!! It was so much fun to see Dad Suru play around with the crowd today before actually revealing his new baby’s gender to us. We then watched as the whole family made their debut. Like a true mama Akuti kept baby rhino close by. Baby rhino stayed in shade right next mom as dad entertained the crowd. Afer enjoying some fun snacks and giving his present to the Zoo keepers. We stayed at the Zoo to play their splash zones and had some lunch at the carousel cafe.
This weekend Zoo Miami is celebrating their newest addition with Baby Rhino Weekend. Head on over to Zoo Miami to see this adorable new addition.
Special thanks to zoo miami and Rock Orange for having us today!
Your son is adorable! How did he guess baby Rhino was a girl?
Thanks! I have no idea he said he just knew.
This looks like a great day!!! You have a beautiful family!
What a wonderful experience! Definitely not your average gender reveal party LOL and good guessing to your little guy. I would love to attend something like that. I gotta see if our zoo has anything similar. I think we a vote for the new panda’s name a while back.
